Frequently Asked Questions

Can I get married at the church if I’m not a member? Yes. Reserving a wedding date will depend on the availability of the pastor and the availability of the church building. Check with the church office for information regarding wedding fees and building use policy.

Can I get baptized in the church if I’m not a member?  In the United Methodist Church, baptism is linked to membership. Therefore, celebrating the sacrament of baptism in a meaningful way includes a commitment to God and to our church family as well.
Is informal dress ok? More than OK. Informal dress is welcomed at Genesis.
Is the service designed for families with young children?   Children are valued and appreciated at Genesis. Our casual environment lends itself easily to the presence of children in worship. In the summer we have children’s time as part of our weekly worship experience, followed by children’s enrichment. Throughout the school year, we offer nursery and toddler care and concurrent Sunday school for ages 3-K (JAM – Jesus and Me) and grades 1-6 (KidZone). Activity bags are also available for children who wish to remain in worship with their families.
What is the music like? Our worship celebration includes a live band. No hymnals here. For a better sense of what you will experience on a Sunday morning, check out our worship music list.
Which doors are handicap accessible? Handicap parking is available in the front of our church building, along with automatic front doors. The entire Genesis building is handicap accessible, including bathrooms, full access to the sanctuary, and elevators to the second floor.
Where do I park to enter the building? Our parking lot is located at the front of our building. The sanctuary is immediately to your right as you enter the front doors. If you need access to handicap parking, please park in the front of the building. If you are looking for the church office, use the parking lot in the back of the building in between GR Gymnastics and CWS.
What happens during the worship service? Praise music, scripture, offering, and a 15-20 minute teaching sermon make up the main body of our one-hour service. Other elements of worship may include various styles of prayer, drama, liturgical dance, video clips of personal faith stories, and the celebration of communion on the fourth Sunday of the month.
How does the congregation observe communion?  We celebrate the sacrament of Holy Communion on the fourth Sunday of every month, with additional opportunities during Advent, Christmas Eve, and Lent. We celebrate by intinction (dipping a piece of bread into a cup of juice). Gluten-free bread is available upon request. The United Methodist Church celebrates an open table. You do not need to be a member to receive communion.
